2008 Aurealis Award shortlist
9th December- The Aurealis Awards team has announced the finalists for 2008. For the first time it includes categories for best collection and best anthology The award covers Australian science fiction, fantasy, and horror. It is also includes a couple of 8-12 Year old Children's categories which is nice to see. Winners announced in Brisbane on January 24, 2009. Full lists.

Malouf Wins the First Prize
The Complete Stories, a short story collection by Australian author David Malouf has been awarded the first Australia-Asia Literary Award.
The $110,000 award, the richest literary prize in Australia, was created by the state government in Western Australia, and awards excellence in fiction about Australia or Asia by Australian or Asian writers.
ACT Book of the Year Award Shortlists
Authors Jackie French, Nicholas Drayson, Kim Huynh, Tony Kevin and Robert Macklin have all made the cut for the 2008 award. Winner due end of year. More
Just Shocking Clean-Sweep of Aussie Children's Choice Awards
Andy Griffith's and Terry Denton's Just Shocking, has won all six Australian Choice Awards adding the Victorian YABBA and Western Australia WAYBRA to the NSW Koalas, QLDS Bilbys, NT Krocs and ACT Cool Awards.
Australian Raised Nam Le Takes the £60,000 (au$140,000) Dylan Thomas Prize
11th November - Swansea. A 29-year-old writer originally from Vietnam is the second winner of one of the world's biggest literary awards, the £60,000 Dylan Thomas Prize. Nam Le , who grew up in Australia, lives in New York, and next year apparently plans to move to the UK, beat five rivals with his debut collection of short stories The Boat.
